The Montreal River Area used to be know as "Trails End". This was the end of the road which extended north from Sault Ste. Marie. Montreal River is also know for the steep surrounding terrain and the cobbled beaches of the former glacial lake shorelines of Glacial Lake Nipissing and Minong. Travellers to the Montreal River Area can view the majesty, and during storms, the power, of Lake Superior from the Montreal River Hill.
New mountain biking trails are being developed by the owners of Mad Moose Lodge. These backcountry trails access the adjacent Provincial Crown Land access roads and will provide connection to the Tribag Mine Road and then Batchawana Bay.
Coastal kayak excursions north or south of Montreal River will introduce you to extraordinary rock uplands and raised cobble beaches formed during the times of Glacial Lakes Minong and Nipissing. Look for Pukaskwa Pits in these cobble beaches.
Growing up in the Sault the Water Tower was always a place I wanted to go. It is reasonably priced for all the facilities and my family thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you.- Robert Pinches
