Chippewa Falls
Just a 52 km/32 mi drive from the Inn, with easy access from the highway, this river mouth is known for rainbow trout, especially in the Spring. Across from the falls is a diner and tackle shop, and access to a sandy Lake Superior beach. There are also hiking trails and a picnic site, making this spot ideal for a family affair.
Lake Superior Provincial Park
Lake Superior Provincial Park boasts one of the finest Brook Trout fisheries in North America. Trout are fussy fish; they like their water clean, well oxygenated and cold. Find 4 kinds of trout in the park: Brook, Lake, Rainbow and Splake. NOTE: There is a ban on the use and possession of live baitfish (live minnows and crayfish) in the park and no motorized water craft are allowed except on Lake Superior.
St. Mary’s River
You can shore fish from the piers along the Sault Ste. Marie waterfront boardwalk, or from Bellevue Park on the east side of town. Or fish the St. Mary’s Rapids for spring rainbow trout. Or you can hire a charter or individual guide. A spin-casting mecca, the St. Mary’s offers up various species of trout and salmon, and whitefish and pickerel, depending on the season.
