Kayaking and Canoeing
Kayaking and Canoeing in Sault Ste. Marie
Bring you own kayak or canoe…we have secured indoor storage for your personal craft, or simply rent from one of our Adventure partners. Whether a day trip or a longer excursion, our Adventure Hosts can advise you. The Lake Superior Coast is a paddlers’ mecca, giving you access to rugged rock headlands as well as sheltered sand and cobble beaches. There are many launch points, most often from beaches. Closer to the Inn, you can paddle the St. Mary’s River that links Lake Superior to Lake Huron. You can even paddle through the Canadian Canal Lock, which is open only to pleasure craft. Or try a leisurely float trip down the Goulais River. Day-trip canoe routes within the Lake Superior Provincial Park include lake-to-lake systems. Paddling route maps are available through the Park’s headquarters, the campground gate offices or through the Friends of Lake Superior Provincial Park interpretive centre. Rentals are also available in the Park. There are several guiding outfits in the area. One of our Adventure Hosts can get you started.
